No nonsense tales from a Yorkshire B&B

We were delighted to welcome WI member and B&B owner, Julie Clarke, to our May meeting yesterday, to regale us with her hilarious tales from 30 years experience in running a Yorkshire B&B.

Living in an idyllic rural setting on a farm in Coverdale, Julie established her business in 1986 and has never looked back. Winning over her lovely husband who was “a typical Yorkshire hill farmer – preferring sheep, dogs and solitude to folk”, she shared some of the high points and funny stories of how she developed her business and in the process made some life-long friends from all over the world.

Julie was also the lovely lady who created the recipe for the WI Centenary Fruit Cake, as served at the centenary meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in 2015, and is famed for her no-nonsense approach with Princess Ann. We won’t tell you the tale – best to hear it from Julie herself !

Speaking to a packed hall, Julie had everyone enraptured from start to finish and we hope she will visit us again soon with one of her renowned cookery demonstrations or more of her wonderful tales ! You can find out more about her B&B here.
