To celebrate the reopening of the newly refurbished Yarm Library, a programme of exciting events has been put together! You can see each one below, followed by the date, time and a little explanation of each one. It is set to be a really great week, so we definitely recommend getting involved.
Bulls, Bridges, Boats and Beer – A Heritage Walk Around Yarm – Thursday 8th September, 6pm – 8pm, £2.50
This walk will be guided by local time traveller Martin Peagam, and will bring many aspects of Yarm over the centuries to life. It will be a gentle, but highly entertaining walk around the town, filled with tales of bull baiting and broken bridges, of fishing, floods, fairs and so much more! There will also be light refreshments available at the library afterwards. Comfy footwear is advised and it is suitable for wheelchair users. Booking is required, so please click here to do so.
Three Boro Writers in Yarm – Friday 9th September, 7pm – 9pm, £3
Boro Fanzine ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ presents three of Teesside’s favourite football writers, Harry Pearson, Daniel Gray and Bob Fischer. Listen as they chat about Teesside football, sci-fi and even compiling a Marxist dictionary. Places for this event are limited, so booking is required. Please click here for more info.
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party – Saturday 10th September, 10am – 12pm, free
This is a wonderful family event, with storytelling, face painting, balloon modelling, crafts, children’s games, and a free prize draw to win a special edition illustrated Alice in Wonderland book. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Mad Hatter’s tea party without refreshments, so there will be plenty to eat and drink! Don’t be late for a very important date! Click here for more info.
The Great Chocoplot with Chris Callaghan – 4pm – 5pm, free
This is an even for all of those with a sweet tooth, as children’s author, Chris Callaghan, introduces his debut book, ‘The Great Chocoplot.’ This event is great for children aged between 7 and 10 years, and they will enjoy a reading from Chris’s book, have time to ask him any questions, and even get the chance to design their own bar of chocolate. History Wardrobe: A Very Victorian Lady (SOLD OUT) – 7:30pm – 9pm, £7
Unfortunately, this event has sold out, but people attending will have a rare opportunity to see original Victorian clothes and accessories that tell the story of four women; a mother, a mill worker, a milliner and an emigrant. This is sure to be a fascinating event and an interesting look into the lives of women that didn’t lead a life of leisure.
Dead Men Tell Tales – 6:30pm – 8:30pm, £3
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a real crime investigation? This event gives the chance to look at real CSI with forensic artist and author, Norman Kirtlan. What does the pathologist look for after the discovery of a corpse? What can the body tell us about the victim’s last moments? If you are a crime fiction reader or enjoy CSI TV programmes, then this is definitely the event for you. Due to graphic content, this event is for adults only.
