Have you got an old handbag that is just gathering dust in your wardrobe? Why not put it to good use and donate it to a charity project that is currently running in Stockton?
Around 1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and this results in many women fleeing from their partners. It is these women that Deborah Bailey-Knibbs, the creator of this project, is trying to help. You can see her video here. She is asking the women of Stockton to come together and donate an old handbag, along with some essential products for these women in vulnerable situations. You could pop in some sanitary products, a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, anything that you think a woman would need when fleeing their home.
If you are interested in contributing, you can take your handbag down to the Labyrinth Holistic Cafe in Stockton. However, there are a few other drop off points, one of them being Fiona’s Sewing & Alterations in Hartburn (above Inspirations hairdressers, 50A Darington Road), so if you’re local to the area, you can just pop in there!
It’s a really great and helpful project, plus it means you get to clear out your closet a little bit. If you’d like to read a bit more information on domestic abuse, you can have a look at the Refuge website. You can also join the Labyrinth Ladies group on Facebook, where you can find out a bit more about the project and speak to like-minded ladies.
