Bread and water so easily becomes toast and tea !

It hardly seems a week since we welcomed Gavin Taylor and his colleagues, Chris and Paul, from Warburtons Stockton bakery to our April meeting, not forgetting special guest Kermit pictured here with our new Secretary, Joanne.

Our guests told us all about the history of the Warburton’s family business, sharing their corporate philosophy and plans for the future. Warburtons is the largest bakery in the UK and was recently voted as one of the best 30 companies in the country to work for ! Our very own bakery at Stockton is also an award winner – producing the best crumpets across the company, and luckily for us these are distributed locally for us all to enjoy !

We welcomed Denise, Judith and Yvonne as visitors, and also distributed the first edition of our monthly HVWI herald newsletter, sharing a little more news and views for our members, as well as introducing Joanne Ainscough as our new Secretary ! Bettina gave out cards to our April birthday girls, and Caroline Noble and one of our visitors, Judith, were our raffle winners.

This month’s competition was ‘an open sandwich’; our visitors had a difficult choice to make from the many and varied, but our congratulations went to Rachel, Bernice and Christine for their very different creations ! The evening round off with our guests distributing bread and crumpet samples for us all to take home – thank you guys !!

Our next meeting is 2 May when we will be joined once again by Julie Clarke with a cookery demonstration. Hope to see you there !
