We were thrilled to once again welcome Julie Clarke as our guest speaker at our meeting this week. Julie, a member of the WI since 1974, came to see us last year with tales from Middle Farm, her farmhouse B&B in the Dales; she had us in stitches then and did not disappoint this time !
Ably assisted by her friend Sandra, this marvellous duo created a full three-course meal in just 45 minutes, whilst all the while regaling us with tales from the B&B and their Yorkshire Federation !! With a portable gas burner and small oven, we were treated to a spinach, ham and cream cheese roulade, fruity couscous salad with braised chicken thighs in a sweet sauce and mango, raspberry and chocolate heaven puds ! Wow !
Even better, all of the goodies were raffled to the members so nine of our ladies were lucky enough to go home with a delicious supper ! Our members also brought along an item of store cupbaord food to be sent off to our food bank, but more of that later…
Our May meeting is traditionally the time to vote on the NFWI proposed resolutions and our members voted overwhelmingly in favour of both Alleviating Lonliness and Tackling Plastic Soup so next stop is the Annual Meeting in Liverpool next month.
All in all a good time was had by all and we are now looking forward to welcoming Jean Harrod with her presentation on ‘Deadly Diplomacy’ on 6 June. Visitors most welcome !!
