The HVWI girls were out in force today, with 16 of us donning our glad rags and heading off to enjoy the salubrious surroundings of Wynyard Hall in glorious sunshine for the Teesside Federation Annual Lunch, along with another 180 ladies from WIs across our region.
Seated in the opulent conservatory, we were welcomed by Chairman Sue Simpson, then our lovely ladies tucked into melon with berry sorbet, roast chicken with Spring vegetables, mushroom and truffle jus followed by a beautifully light passion fruit cheesecake with coconut truffles. Yum ! We each had named places on beautifully dressed tables, the food was delicious and the service impeccable; all credit to the Federation board of Trustees and staff at Wynyard who worked hard to ensure we had a most enjoyable afternoon.
The piece de resistance was an entertaining talk by Paul Laidlaw, respected antiques expert and auctioneer and sta of BBC antiques shows including Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip. Paul took us on a rollercoaster road trip through his life, giving us a fascinating insight into his childhood and early career, life with the BBC and secrets from the trade.
Finally, in true HVWI style, our ladies walked away with 4 of the 17 raffle prizes !! All in all, we had a terrific afternoon and are now eagerly awaiting the afternoon tea in September !
